about

After the experiments in minimalist post punk of Whateverland, I decided to shift gears and go in the completely opposite direction.

In the fall of 2007, I got together with my homie Justin, and his crew at DMA laboratories in Staten Island NY.
For a few months, we smoked hookahs, got wasted, messed around with some crystals, smoked blunts, sniffed some blow, and recorded this record.

It was a pretty rough winter, and at the time, the original band (Chris LaSalvia on drums, and Sam Levitt on bass had broken up), but me with nothing else to do, decided to soldier on and complete the record.

While the recording was finished at DMA laboratories, I ended up taking the master tracks back to my moms house, where my brother, Sean and I smoked lots of weed and mixed the record ourselves.

Being the first sonically dense album, I am still not thrilled with how the mix came out, but I feel it does well to capture a specific era. It was the first step into the dense and layered mixes that CDHS would eventually excel at creating, but definitely a bit raw.

Lyrically and thematically, it deals with some pretty heavy emotional shit that I was going through at the time, so I suppose you could almost call this our "emo" record, although, there are definitely some more gloomy death rock moments that slightly hint back to the first record. Overall, I feel that Whateverland, and CDHS both hint at what the band would become, but I offer the warning, these first two records are pretty fucking rough. -j

about

cats don't have souls Albany, New York

Cats don’t have souls started off as a minimalist deathrock duo and polluted itself into a drunken and deranged sound experimental prog obsessed entity with a personality disorder. Please be considerate of others and don't play this too loud.
